Why I Love the Canon R6

Today I am going to give you 5 reasons why I love my Canon R6 and why you would too. To start I want to preface by saying that I have been using this camera full-time for 4 years now. It has been used on hundreds of projects, has traveled all around with me and I don’t have any plans to slow down with it.

#1 The Ergonomics - This camera is really comfy to hold and use. It has a very sleek design with a very reliable grip and quick access to all the settings and buttons you may need. I can hold this camera all day and not get sick of it. Most cameras have this capability now but you can customize all the buttons and dials to be exactly what you want. You dont need to open the settings menu to change around any important setting on the fly. This is really important when you are doing client work because being fast and efficient ensures a good outcome.

#2 The Autofocus - I have never had an issue with this camera not being able to focus quickly. Whether it’s a tree or a person the camera picks up on what the main subject is with ease. That’s not even with the face detection feature on. When it is on and you’re taking portraits, you’ll never miss the shot because the face tracking works like a charm. It comes with 7 different focusing modes which all serve their own purpose and I tend to use all of them depending on the situation. Alongside that, if you choose to shoot in manual mode in terms of focus, the peaking is incredible. I use it with the red indicator and it very easily shows you exactly whats in focus and what’s not. I tend to shoot a lot of video in manual focus because it stops the camera from hunting unnecessarily.

#3 The Quality - When this camera has adequate light, the detail is impressive. For only having a 20.1 megapixel sensor the photos and videos look great! Even in low light, you can get away with bumping your iso very high and getting usable images and footage. Some shots i’ve taken using a bounce flash that is comparable to my friend 50 megapixel Sony and even his 30-megapixel Hasselblad.

#4 The kit lens - Normally kit lenses are the best in terms of quality and usability. They tend to be variable aperatures meaning you can’t always get the blurry background effect and are not as good in low light situations but I am very impressed with the 24-105mm lens the Canon R6 comes with. It is really lightweight, not very big, has a nice wide range of depth, and is really sharp. What more could you ask for from a kit lens?

#5 Two SD Card Slots - Having the capability to put two different SD cards in the Canon R6 makes it great for doing paid work. We all know the stresses of shooting paid work and immediately backing up the footage or photos the first chance you get to ensure that you have a back up incase something happens. Well with two SD slots, it means you can format the cards to create a copy of the files immediately, literally as shooting. This gives me great piece of mind, especailly when I’m shooting weddings.

To sum it all up there are many more reasons why I love this camera but i’ll leave you with these main 5 today. I will write another blog about some of the things i dont like, but that article won’t be very long.
